Here is a mindset shift I learned in my radiology residency…
We tend to remember the things that go wrong more than we remember the things that go right.
Think back to when you took a test, and immediately after the test, you began looking up the answers to the questions… particularly the answers to the questions you were unsure of.
If you are anything like me, all the answers I got right over the years I have long forgotten, but to this day I can still remember some of the answers to questions I got wrong.
So when you are in a learning environment here is how you can use this interesting feature of our humanity to your advantage…
Dare to be wrong. Dare to fail. Our goal is to be effective in the long term, and often, that means being willing to be wrong in the short term.
Given the choice between being right and being effective… choose effective.
“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” ~Samuel Beckett
